DOG SLEDDING TOUR TAIGA NEW YEAR

taiga

Detailed program

Our dog sledding tours are one-week programs with friday as arrival and departure day.

Day 1: Arrival

You travel individually to Vilhelmina and we organize the transfer from the airport or the bus station to our camp. You are accommodated in a double room where you have time to set up yourself. Afterwards we get to know each other during a cozy dinner.
During dinnertime, we present all the options for organizing the week and clarify open questions. We will be dog sledding 1+2+2 days. That means that Saturday is generally an introduction day. We will undertake a tour into the surrounding wilderness and come back to the camp in the afternoon. On Sunday, we will head out for our first overnight tour. In total we will spend 2 nights in the wilderness, with a rest day at the camp in the middle.

Day 2: Introduction and day tour

After breakfast time, you get to know the dogs - lots of cuddles included. We present you each dog who will accompany you on your adventure for the next few days individually. During the tour you will be a team - you and the dogs - and you will have to rely on each other in many situations. Therefore it is of great importance to us that you get the chance to build a relationship with the dogs in your team.
After you got to know the dogs, you get a detailed introduction into dog sledding. Because dog sledding is a lot more than to just stand on a sled. You learn everything you need such as how to deal with the dogs, how to harness the dogs and how to drive the sled. And then, finally, we put the dogs in front of the sled and the adventure begins. The guide leads with his / her dog team and you follow with your own team. We adapt the route and duration according to the current weather conditions. As we return to the camp you help to take care of the dogs. Then we warm up and let the experience pass in review over a snack. We end the day with a dinner in a cozy atmosphere and discuss the tour days ahead of us.

Day 3-4: Overnight tour

For the next following two days it is just us, our dogs and the wilderness. We plan to travel to a remote cabin which is a little less than 40 km away. This corresponds to approx. 4 travelling hours in good weather conditions but can take longer in bad weather. After having arrived at our chosen destination, the dogs are taken care of. Then we prepare our wilderness camp. We spend the night in a simple wilderness cabin without electricity and running water or in a (heatable) tent. This means that there is a lot to do before it is getting cozy: chopping wood, lighting a fire to heat up the stove and melting snow or ice to get drinking water. The magic word is teamwork. It is a hands-on adventure and is a lot more than just consuming. At the same time you get the chance to experience an unfamiliar and fascinating world. Welcome to the wilderness of Lapland!

Day 5: Snowshoe or ski hike

On Tuesday  it's time to relax, both you and the dogs. But for those who still feel the need to exercise and would like to see the sourrounding nature, we offer a snowshoe or ski hike. Today is generally a rest day for the dogs. But it is possible that dogs, which did not take part in the tour, accompany us on our hike.

Day 6-7: Overnight tour

For the next two days it is again just us, the dogs and the wilderness and we head out for our second overnight tour. But this time it gets even more adventurous: We will spend the night in our heatable tent.

On Thursday afternoon we return to the camp and as usual we take care of the dogs first and then you get to enjoy the well-earned shower. We end the day with a dinner in a cozy atmosphere and let the experience pass in review.

Day 8: Departure

After saying goodbye to the dogs, we organize the transfer back to Vilhelmina and you start your trip home.
