Unala earned her nickname during puppyhood because she looked more like a little panda than a dog back then. She has long outgrown that bear-like appearance — today, only her coat color reminds one of a panda. Her character clearly reflects her origins, as she closely resembles her mother Galena: gentle and reserved with new people. Although Unala is rather inconspicuous and rarely immediately in the spotlight, she is an important part of our sled dog team. She always gives her all, and watching her smooth, flowing gait is simply a joy.

Date of Birth: April 28, 2020

Name Origin: Unalakleet – Checkpoint in the Iditarod
Unala is named after Unalakleet, a key checkpoint in the legendary Iditarod sled dog race in Alaska. Unalakleet lies on the Bering Sea and marks roughly the halfway point of the race. The location serves as a crucial rest and resupply stop for mushers and their dogs, where many teams recharge and prepare for the challenging sections ahead.
