Ruby is the daughter of our former, now sadly deceased, lead dog Galena. She earned her nickname "Ruby-Platsch" as a puppy: while her siblings were wildly romping around, there would just be a soft platsch (plop)—and there sat Ruby. Instead of running, she much preferred to cuddle. Her love for people has remained unchanged to this day—she's the most outgoing of her siblings and always actively seeks human contact.
But out on the sled, our little fluffball shows a completely different side: there's no sign of “plop, I’d rather sit down.” With great enthusiasm, stamina, and joy, she pulls alongside the team and has grown into an excellent sled dog.
Date of birth: April 28, 2020
Name origin: Checkpoint on the Iditarod trail
Ruby is named after an important checkpoint along the famous Iditarod sled dog race in Alaska. The town of Ruby sits picturesquely on the Yukon River and marks roughly the halfway point of the race—a significant milestone for both mushers and dogs, where the course of the race is often determined.
